British Values
British Values are important to help prepare children and young people for life in modern Britain as they grow. British Values form an important part of safeguarding children and are used as a preventative method against extremism and radicalisation.
The 5 British Values are:
- Democracy
- Tolerance
- Respect
- Liberty
- Rule of Law
British Values improves a child's spiritual, moral social and cultural development and underpins what it means to be a British Citizen in a modern and diverse Britain, whilst promoting cultural understanding that celebrates the diversity of the UK.
At Squirrels Pre-School, practitioners support British Values within the EYFS through discussions and model the values during everyday activities and interactions. The 5 British Values are embedded into every child's learning and development, where the children are taught how to be kind, respectful and tolerant of others.
Throughout the year, children celebrate holidays and festivals from different cultures, faiths and traditions, allowing the children to understand that all differences make us individually unique.
