From September 2025, the government published The Best Start in Life! 

Best Start in Life focuses on providing integrated support for families, high quality early education, and accessible childcare from pregnancy to age five. 

Best Start in Life puts a focus on Child Development in particular school readiness and emphasising the importance of communication, social skills and emotional development through nurturing interactions from caregivers. 

School readiness is about helping children feel happy, confident, and excited to begin their primary school journey. It’s not just about knowing numbers or letters, but also about being able to share, take turns, listen, and join in with others. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) encourages children to explore, play, and build independence so they’re ready for new routines and learning. Being school-ready simply means children feel comfortable, curious, and eager to enjoy their first steps into school life.
